Apple Streusel Coffee Cake

Ever wonder how granny smith apples got their name? I do. Apparently there was an actual Granny Smith. She lived in Australia in the mid 1800’s. She and her husband moved to an orchard in the younger years where they grew old cultivating fruit. Marie Smith, as the story goes, was testing crab-apples for cooking and threw the cores out her kitchen window. Suddenly, a tree sprung up that produced a fruit that was great for cooking. Yup, there is the story and most of it is true…allegedly. Either way, we have awesome cooking apples to put in our coffee cake. And the best part, is not the apples, but the streusel. Now that is a true story.
